The city of Corvallis serves as the seat of Benton County in west central Oregon, midway in the Willamette Valley. Corvallis is home to roughly 56,000 residents at an elevation of 235 feet above sea level.
Education was established in Corvallis with construction of the first school building in 1848. Corvallis was then incorporated as a city in 1857. More than 150 years later, Corvallis holds the highest education rate per capita of any city in Oregon, while home to Oregon State University. Corvallis is also recognized as a Tree City USA, with nearly 50 public parks for everyone’s enjoyment. The city received a gold rating as a Bicycle-Friendly Community in 2011, and many Corvallis residents bicycle to work.
